Apple and Qualcomm have reconciled with each other but Intel is still the iPhone chip supplier this year



Reuters reporter Stephen Nellis tweeted on Twitter Twitter CEO Bob Swan, suggesting that Intel will still provide Apple with a communications chip for the iPhone product launched this fall.

Shi Wang said: "We will continue to launch 4G modem chips throughout the year, including the second generation products launched in the fall." - Although this sentence is not directly said, it has already proved that the iPhone communication chip in September this year. The provider is still Intel.

With Apple restarting its cooperation with Qualcomm, Intel also announced that it will no longer develop 5G baseband chips for mobile phones, but focus on 5G Internet of Things and other fields, but CEO Shi Wang’s remarks indicate that Intel's chips will still be used in this year's  in the iPhone.

Of course, it is a 4G chip. According to the calculation of time, when Apple and Qualcomm announced a settlement, the new iPhone in September is already in the final stage of research and development, and Qualcomm should not be able to catch up. Intel's inclusion in the 2019 iPhone supply chain means that Apple's flagship product will not have 5G network capabilities.

In fact, Apple's plan is to launch 5G mobile phones in 2020. They originally hoped that Intel will provide 5G chip XMM 8160 for iPhone and other wireless products by 2020, but it is reported that Intel encountered many obstacles in developing such high-speed network technology. A few hours after the settlement agreement was announced, Intel said it would withdraw from the smartphone 5G chip business. According to the "Wall Street Journal" report, after hearing the news that Apple and Qualcomm reached an agreement, Swan decided to withdraw from the competition, XMM 8160 died.
